about

Bill Sears, AKA "Phosphorous" (sic), was a Seattle area artist who worked in many different mediums, from poster art and painting to sculpture and computer games.

He also created audio collages and "soundscapes," sometimes with monologues, in his garage studio using multiple tape recorders, inexpensive microphones and pickups, amplifiers and speakers, cheap synthesizers and the odd handheld gadget.

Looking for the Old Kraken is a sampling of this material, some of which would be included in two games Bill and I created with Iikka Keränen ("Brainpipe: A Plunge to Unhumanity," an IGF award winner for sound, and "Data Jammers: FastForward"). Bill, Iikka and I co-founded the indie game design group Digital Eel in 2001.

Note that source levels, and sometimes audio quality, varied considerably. I did some minor tweaking to get everything in the same audio neighborhood, but not much else. What you hear is pure Bill.

"Ion Road Trippin"
"Travelers"
"Star Hummer"
"Kraken"
"Void Probe"
"Blue Runners"
